Safiya Noble is a DataEthics4All Top 100 DIET Champion 2021, an Associate Professor at UCLA, and a Research Associate at Oxford Internet Institute from University of Oxford. Safiya is the author of Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism. Her areas of expertise are race, gender, the Internet, and technology. At UCLA, Safiya is an associate professor for Information Studies and African American Studies. Professor Noble conducts research in socio-cultural informatics; including feminist, historical and political-economic perspectives on computing platforms and software in the public interest. Her research is at the intersection of transnational culture and technology in the design and use of applications on the Internet.
