DATAETHICS4ALL'S MISSION.
The Mission of DataEthics4All, an independent national nonprofit 501(c)(3), is to support the work of DataEthics4All Foundation in raising Ethics 1st Data and AI Champions and providing need based Scholarships (availability on Funds) to break barriers of entry in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for girls, foster youth and the economically disadvantaged.
The Problem.
Today, Technology is incubated and developed in a homogeneous environment.
The people who are building today’s technology do not share the same lived experiences of many of its users.
Not only does it widen the existing disparities in society; it amplifies it.
Minorities and communities of color do not have a pathway into the tech sector.
They do not have representation or access to a seat at the table.
This in turn compounds the problem of racially biased data as well as racially biased technologies.
The problem of racial bias and lack of inclusion in tech is not simple, it is multi-fold.
A lack of diversity in tech does not have its roots at the employment stage.
It starts at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Then it branches out to mentoring and networking opportunities throughout college and beyond.
At each level, the problem has multiple layers, but they all have one thing in common: lack of access.
Access to STEM knowledge. Access to mentors, peers, and networking opportunities
from a dedicated community of leaders willing to invest in their best interests.
Representation of Women in STEM varies across Job clusters
Black and Hispanic workers remain underrepresented in the STEM Workforce today
Barriers to STEM Education are Cost, Time and Interest, lack of access to Mentors
Half of Americans don’t pursue STEM degrees because of the difficulty of the subjects
The Solution.
A multi-pathway program to break barriers and promote cognitive diversity through peer to peer support with a bottoms-up approach from classroom to conferences.
We provide Education, Mentoring, Global Peer Network from high school to early/mid-career professionals.
DataEthics4All Foundation’s definition of STEAM also includes Sociology, Technical Education, Ethics, Analytics and Mentoring!
The traditional definition of STEAM means Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.
Today, there exist many new linear as well as non-linear STEAM career paths that we’d like our students to be aware of and be able to take advantage of.
Choose a career in STEAM whether or not Math, Science or Coding are their biggest passions.
AI is going to be used in every Industry in the future from healthcare to construction and everything in between.
DataEthics4All believes that combining the traditional with this new definition of STEAM will bring the much needed STEAM in AIᵀᴹ to break barriers of entry in tech for the economically disadvantaged, people of color and girls.
